District Council of Loxton Waikerie

Introduction

The District Council of Loxton Waikerie is committed to using efficient water practices to minimise water use which will assist the River Murray.

Current Activities

  • Shower Head Exchange - Council has jointly participated with SA Water to provide residents with the opportunity to exchange their existing shower heads with low flow shower heads and shower timers.   Council has issued 400 low-flow shower heads which will provide a saving of approximately 6.4 million litres per annum.
  • Community Wastewater Management Scheme (CWMS) - recycled wastewater is being used at the Waikerie Golf Club

Planned Activities

  • Construct a wastewater treatment plant at Loxton to use recycled water on the park, garden and oval areas in the township
  • Construct stormwater retention basins in Loxton to harvest stormwater for recycling
